Welcome 2010. After spending the past three months opening up Exygon health and Fitness, the 2010 training year has began! Dusted off the bike with a nice 45 mile ride yesterday. The running scene has been moving, I have logged about 100 miles thanks to the new Sunday running group. Its going to be a great year:

We ended up getting 30 miles in going to China, Tx and back. Despite having to pray to get these 3 rookies home alive, it was a great time. Hopefully, we have a few more people who will consider adopting this lifestyle.

So the swelling, soreness, and purpleness in my foot are actually just a bye product of the damage I did to my calf 1.5 weeks ago at rugby practice.

Doc figures Quantico just did some more damage to calf and that the bleeding from that damage is just settling in my foot.

So it is back to RICE for me, getting a big bucket tomorrow so I can just put half my leg in there, and going to start wrapping it at night.

The keys here are…

I was right not to worry.

Having a student health services where you can see a sports medicine doc with about 2 hours notice is AWESOME

I now have a clearance to start riding and rehabbing my calf/leg/ankle. Exercise will just help the built up blood get out of there faster.

I have to focus on TP, ice, and elevating this thing so it can heal and I can really start to rebuild.

So here is hoping this is my last injury for quite some time… after all I have a mountain/volcano to climb in a few months and I can’t be the weakest link on my rope team. Whoops. That’s another announcement for another time.

Hi all, I am doing great. Philly and school are treating me well.

However, I haven’t been on a real non-stationary bike since I got here due to INJURIES. Yes, multiple.

First week I was here I played flag football and jacked up the tendons in the bottom of my foot. Then last Monday I tweaked my calf at rugby practice and could barely walk. And then Friday at Quantico I did something to my foot/ankle that has left my foot swollen and purple. Aka tore something and there was internal bleeding. I am guessing that sometime during the obstacle course I twisted, hit, or just generally injured my ankle. Fun times.

So hopefully this post will break my current curse and I can heal and get back on the bike. Here’s hoping.

And I saw this link on the website for the inaugural marathon that will be run in Beaumont next May. There will be lots of beginners running this who are being led in the wrong direction with this info.

Although grains may be great for feeding a large mass of people very cheaply during times of famine, they are not optimal for athletes seeking peak performance. For a better look at how athletes should eat for peak perfomance, including endurance athletes, get a copy of the Paleo Diet for Athletes by Cordain and Friel.
