Bring Me Back to Life

by triman on June 10, 2009

Its time to bring this blog back to life! I am now deep into my training year for triathlon and things are going great. I am up to 12hrs/week of total training volume with a long run of 8 miles, long bike of 53 miles, and swim times that are improving consistently. It wont be long before I am under the 8:00/mile mark for my long runs and over 20mph for my long rides. I rode the 53 yesterday and have to admit it was my favorite workout of the year. I took off during the heat of the day, 2pm, and rode for almost 3hrs. The thing I love about the bike is how much nature I get to experience while riding. It was invigorating to be assisted by the one moment only to be punished the next. I saw an adult raccoon crossing the street with two babies, a deer, and birds of prey. I even enjoyed the flat that I had. Aside from spending time with my wife, nothing makes me feel more alive than training for triathlon. Especially when it gets very intense or difficult. I have just come to accept the fact that I can’t ride 20mph into a 30mph headwind. With that acceptance, I drop gears, keep a steady cadence, and lean into it. Just enjoy the moment. Best of all this year, is I believe that I have had at least some influence on a minimum of a half dozen people getting involved with endurance training and committing to lead a healthy lifestyle.
As for myself, I have made some huge strides in decreasing my alcohol intake and partially adopted a paleolithic diet. It will take some time, but I can see myself transitioning to the “caveman” diet full time in the future.

Life is good.
Feeling fresh and loose!
